There’s No Place Like Home

It is good to be home and back to work!

My partner and I just spent the last 6 weeks traveling India, Thailand and Vietnam. It was life changing to say the least. Not many people would want to come home or back to reality after a trip like that, but honestly, I did. I gained so much inspiration from every Town, City and Country we traveled. We saw something new everyday, turning our perspective of life in circle, reflecting and shattering old thoughts or expectations and starting anew just like that. The gift of perspective is what I gained the most during our 6 weeks away from this highly, almost too,  structured country.

The chaos and beauty I found in India is insurmountable and I finally understand why the Lotus Flower is the countries symbol. India is not an easy place to travel in from foot to car to train to bus to plane, India is not for the faint of heart. I found it is a place where some of the most badass and indestructible people live. The gifts I was given in India will last me a lifetime. From the beautiful friends that we now call family, the beautiful art I was able to gift to the people I love, the most baller gemstone store in a dark back alley I have ever been into, to the incredible animals that roam the land, free and wild and the intricate and intentional architecture that fills the scenery as your driving on a small highway between cities. India is magic.

Thailand and Vietnam were pure bliss. The people, the food, the atmosphere, the color, the hot sun, the misty mornings, the crisp blue oceans, the architecture, the cave system that run through central Vietnam, the hustle and bustle of Bangkok and Saigon, the limestone carst that cover Ha Long Bay. So many new things for us on this trip, and with the new, comes new beginnings.

So that is where I will leave off, on New Beginnings. I hope this year brings you all new and positive changes to your lives. We all need it and we must surrender and embrace it. There is a whole world out there. Go explore.

It is about that time… that travel time…

It has been a long time coming! My partner, Victor and I, along with a group of friends, have been planning a trip to India for over a year now. The anticipation and excitement is setting in now more than ever. At first, Victor and I were only going to go to India. Our original itinerary was from Feb. 3rd to the 23rd. We decided a few months ago that we needed to take full advantage of this time and location and so we extended our trip. We have decided to stay in India for a few extra days. We are then traveling to Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam for an additional three weeks.

This has been a dream trip of mine and also his, for some time now. The food is what first turned me onto the SE Asian countries. As a lover of cooking, this is not just about indulgence of delicious food. It is also about gaining a better understanding of their flavors, spices, ingredients and techniques.

While food is very high on the list,  it is not the only thing I am looking forward to. Jewelry and Metalsmithing has deep roots in India and SE Asia, not to mention, is home to some of the most beautiful gemstones in the world. I plan to bring home a limited amount of treasure to share with you all, so please stay tuned for that on my return home.

Of course… lets not forget… the architecture. This may be the one thing that will continuously blow me away every place we visit. The architectural history is strong and powerful in every country we are visiting.  I intend to harness some of that strength during this trip and look forward to bringing it home to share with you all.

We invite you to stay connected with us on our travels!

I am going to be posting our trip to my  Instagram @lindsey_scot_ernst and the Lindsey Scot Ernst Facebook, so be sure to head over there and give me a follow/like.

•• A little bit about my time with Art Gym ••

Art Gym Denver is a creative workspace where every type of artist from printmakers to painters to metalsmiths to culinary artists have the opportunity to not only work in a creative space amongst other artist but the opportunity to use tools and machines that they may not have in their own personal spaces.

On July 1st, I was awarded the Create Art Award by the Center for Visual Art and Art Gym Denver. This award is dedicated to emerging artist that graduated from MSU Denver. It is a support system where the artist can work, learn and have the opportunity to build their own solo exhibition.

The Award includes a 6 month membership, use of on-demand equipment and workspaces, ongoing planning and critique sessions, $650.00 Stipend for materials, Solo Exhibition and a Opening Reception.

It has been an amazing and beneficial opportunity so far and I look forward to being apart of this community for many moons to come!
